"Gnome Run"
What do you think of Jordan Sonnenblick using humor to tell a story about a teenager who is mad at his parents and makes a conscious decision to break the law and drink and drive?

I think that he made a good descision to make it humorous because sometimes it makes it easier and not as boring to read about his life when he puts some humor in it. Even thought he broke the law it isnt really that bad because he was very depressed and probably wasnt thinking right when he made the descision to drink and then steal his moms car and go driving. He wasnt probably even planning on getting in an accident anyway.
I think that Sonnenblick is smart to use humor to tell about a story of trouble. If there was no humor noone would want to read a story that is all depressing and no fun. People don't like to read about depressing items. There is enough depressing news if you just turn on the TV or radio. I can't speak for other people but I personally like to read books to escape the promblems of this world. If an somebody came out with a depressing book I know I wouldn't read it and I dont think that many other people would read it either.
I think that it is a smart idea to use humor in this topic. I know I wouldn't want to read a deppressing book but if you put some humor in the book to lightin it up a bit it would make it not so sad and gloomy to all the readers especialy about this topic at hand
I think Sonnenblick's idea to use humor to tell the story of Alex and his accident because it makes it easier to connect with. Sonnenblick uses the humor in a way that it sonuds serious and yet it is still funny. The book sounds more like a teenager book when there is some humor, but without the humor teens would think that it is some sappy, depressing story that just makes people cry.
I think humor is better than serious stories. Being depressed about his parents spliting up is natural I mean any one would. I think being mad at you're father for sleeping with one of you're past teachers is very understanding. So maybe Alex driving under age and drinking lots of liquir wasn't the best thing but it was funny instead of a boring, sad book which no one wants to read.
I think Mr. Sonnenblick used humor in his story because it looks like all of his other books have alot of humor in them and he brightens up some of the really bad things about teenage life so the reader doesnt feel quite so crummy while reading it.
I think that it is a good idea that he made a good choice to put humor in it,because some people like humorous books.Alex breaks the law, gets into alot of trouble, and his parents are divorced. This book can be pretty interesting onc e you start reading the book, it actually does start getting very interesting.
I think that Sonnenblick used humor to tell the story for a few different reasons. One of them could be that since this is a story about one boys messed up life, humor would lighten it up so it wouldn't be so depressing. Another reaso could be that people don't want to read books about someones messed life. they would rather read a humorus book or at least on that wasn't so morbid and sad.
There are times, and there aren't times in which you should use humor to tell a story about a serious matter, but I think the author, Jordan Sonnenblick, did a great job using humor to write about the serious matter of Alex and his problems. Fist, humor can make a story better or worse, and this author made the story better, because it's not always fun for a reader at my age(13-14) to read something with a serious matter, as it wouldn't be appropriate for a book about 9-11. The humor made it easier to read and it brought out more information about the characters and how the characterization of each character is, but also made a little laughter so that it could be enjoyable. Although, to some readers the humor might not be as enjoyable in this book, but to me it is enjoyable, but I would also agree that some matters my not want humor, as in when he gets in the car crash, but the author used the humor exactly right to tell the story and to tell how the character felt. These are some reasons why I thought the idea Sonnenblick used to tell the story was a great idea.
I think the author(Sonnenblick)uses humor because thats just about all he can use. If you think about it, without the humor in there this story would probably be more at home in court records right? That doesn't mean that i don't enjoy the humor, i love it, or that Sonnenblick just went with the only option, he could have used dry humor or something, it means that along with being cool the humor is a necessary element in this story.
I think Sonnenblick made a good decision in using humor to tell this story because if this story had been written with no humor, it would probobly be pretty boring. Using humor spiced it up and made it funnier and easier to read.
I love how Sonnenblick put humor into the novel, "Notes of a Midnight Driver", because it makes the book interesting to read. The way Sonnenblick put humor into the book gave me the impression that Alex is unpredictable when it comes to what he does and says.

The humor in this chapter delluted the mood of the reader. Not many people like deppresing books, but no one likes a confusing book.
