On page 146-7 Laurie and Alex engage in a conversation:

" I dunno. Steven just looks at her like she hung the moon or something. I think it would be great if a guy looked at me that way. I could see staying together for life with somebody who cared about me that much.""I care about you that much...""Yeah, but I mean a real guy....I mean, you're a real guy, and you're good-looking and nice to me and funny and...umm...I dunno, great. But you're my ALEX. You know?"

Based on this conversation, where do you think their relationship is headed? Is something more going to happen between them, or do you think Alex is going to hear those heart-breaking words every guy experiences at least once in life, "Let's just be friends?" Be sure to use text to support your inference/prediction.

Author in da House

Any insight, Mr. Sonnenblick? We would love to hear from you.

"Soloman"

Sonnenblick says that his character Sol is based on his maternal grandpa. If you were going to write a novel, what relative would you use as a character and why? What characteristics would you include?

"My Day in Court"

Judge Judy sentences Alex to community service even though she hates "drunk driving". What do you think should happen to "good" kids when they make a big mistake and don't feel badly about what they did? How do you feel about Alex's sentence?

Alex

I think Alex... (finish this statement and explain your thinking using specific examples)

"The Wake-up"

At the end of chapter 2, the reader has met Alex's mom and dad. If you could describe his mom with only one word and his dad with only one word, what word would you use for each? Why?

"Gnome Run"

What do you think of Jordan Sonnenblick using humor to tell a story about a teenager who is mad at his parents and makes a conscious decision to break the law and drink and drive?
